View original topic: How to wire Fuel Gauge

Hi, im hoping someone can help. My fuel gauge isnt wired up on my 1963 beetle based "Beach Buggy", i have found a single yellow wire from the sender but the back of the speedo has 2 connections for the fuel gauge?

i havent looked at the back of a stock speedo in a while, but there may be separate lights for the speedometer and the fuel gauge. try connecting power to each one separately and see what happens.

or maybe the second connection is a ground?

the reason i moved this topic is because it was about a beetle speedometer and you werent specific about what kind of vehicle it was in

Sorry, thats why i added the beach buggy bit. It only has 2 terminals on the rear of the speedo for the fuel gauge.

I did initially think one terminal went to the sender and one to earth but then there would be no power, if theres no power then resistance cant be measured?

By my figuring, i was thinking that a live would have to goto one of the terminals and the other terminal to the sender. Then the fuel tank would need to be earthed??

earthed.. haha

how many connections are there on the sender at the tank?

I can only see one terminal, most of the ones i have seen in catalogues etc.. seem to have 2. Its a bit tricky to see as its a beach buggy and the top of the tank isnt easily accessible.

Did they ever make any senders with just the one wire?...if not ill have to try and get the tank out somehow and look for another terminal..

My 71 only has one connection on the sender, but there is only one connection on the back of the speedo as well.

Handy to know, I found some wiring diagrams aswell now. So i think ill have to have a good look at the sender and replace it if it only has one terminal on it.

I *think* I have the single wire sender with a two terminal speedo so may have to replace the sender or the speedo to match them up.
