| Is it completely foolish to run heater boxes on a baja? I live in the N.east and as you know it gets cold here!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| If its strictly off road then my opinion would be not to use them but if its a dual on road/off road or daily driver and your in cold climate I would keep them. One of the first things I did was remove them but when winter came around and when it was my daily driver I was freezing, I had a blanket to cover my legs. What made it worse is the massive hole I had to make in my firewall due to the 3" body lift. |

I run them all year round in the N.W. Put the darn things on and stay warm.
Another option is to look for a VW Thing gas heater for the front.

| I think it depends on your engine and performance desires. I think that stock heater boxes will support up to a 1776cc engine. They are too restrictive beyond that point from my understanding. Plus they do inhibit ground clearance a bit more than a header or J pipes. But, as mentioned before, if it's cold and you drive it alot, they would certainly be nice to have. It is also possible to get "performance" heater boxes that flow a little better than stockers. Go with comfort. Who cares what everyone does. |

Could you tell a little more about the gas heater you used? Are you just talking about those old factory ones that you see advertised everyonce in a while? Was it difficult to install? Do you plumb new venting? I was going to go with heater boxes, but may need to reconsider. Heat is almost mandatory up here, unless you want to let your car sit for 6 months. Thanks. |
