ive got a 72 baja with tortion bars turned 1 or 2 splines(dont remember), coil overs and urethane bushings in tortion housing. i was wondering if i could eliminate the tortion bars and use the coilovers as the "torion bars" and relocate the lower shock mount to gain lift. the urethane bushings would hold the arm in place w/o the bars, and the coils act as tortion bars. eliminate the lower stock shock mount and use a higher mount to achieve lift. grind off the lower bump stop to keep it from bottoming out, give a better ride and more lift. would this work?? im running beetle cv's at the time being, but im about to get the whole shabang from a bus minus trans.

they are on the car right now. they are the nothing-special-plain-jane bugpack ones, part #6505. yellow w/ chrome coil. i know they will hold up the car because they are what i used before i adjusted the tortion arms for lift. i think they are a bit longer than stock, but im not shure.

the suspension arms need to be held in two places. they need to be held straight and firm in two places. you would be able to get away with just the urethane grommets holding the spring plates. you would either need the heim joint conversion like baja5, or you could get creative with the torsion bar like the baja on americansandassociation.org

those won't hold up the car. you need a real coilover like fox, king, racerunner? (S-A-W), or bilstein

you'll also need a small sack o' cash, coilovers aren't cheap..........

For your setup, you would be leaps and bounds ahead by retaining the torsion bars and throwing those coilovers in the dumpster. Buy yourself some decent shocks and you will be so much happier with your cars performance. The coilover shocks you currently have are cheap gimmicks, basically a very cheap shock with a coil spring strapped to it. That isn't what you need to do the job.
