I have a question concerning Porsche replicas. I like most regular VW owners would love to own a Speedster or a nice 356. But why is it that most replicas I see on like eBay have small, single carb 1600cc VW motors in them? If Im going to pay 20k or more I would expect the motor to atleast be a dual carb monster. Confused  :?

Hello,

I would suggest you look again.

Almost all Speedsters, that I have seen, for sale have dual carb setups, including those on eBay.

All of the manufacturers have dual carb engines. They will also reduce their price if you want to supply your own engine instead of theirs.

If you are looking for secondhand vehicles try this website:- www.speedsterowners.com, there are always one or two for sale by members. And most, if not all, of these have dual carbs on 1915cc and larger engines.

Cheers,

Jim.

Here is a link to my speedster: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=117307

It's all about shopping. If you are getting into the $20k range then you will most likely get a beefed up VW. If you are handy mecanically then youcan get into the game much cheaper. You can find unfinished kits around for $3k (needs everything) to $8 ~ $9K . You can find a neglected kit like mine was for $6k ~ $12K. Mine was $7k and came equipped with a 912 Porsche drivetrain and 914 disc brakes. Needs love but nothing $2~3K won't fix.
