Volks, I was gonna cut the card board templates for my floors tomarrow . I was wondering why does most rails have the floor welded to the bottom of the rail instead of the topside?
I plan on making this rail street legal and some off road goofing around.
Whats the advantage ? I can see pros and cons either way... |

bottom: so rocks slide off when you hit something instead of getting caught by a tube
top: easier to clean without dirt, etc. getting caught by the tubes |

Bottom:
that way if you drop your beer it won't roll out of the car as easily.
Wait wait....I didn't mean beer....I meant to say Pepsi. A guy doesn't want to lose an almost full Pepsi. Espcially due to the stupid floor being mounted up side down. Well, unless its a Diet Pepsi. Those things taste terrible.
Another option would be to mount a cup holder on the dash, but thats gettin pretty fancy. You know, you could always just weld in some mounts for a cooler and put your feet on that

| Another reason to NOT put floors on top- your toes sometimes hit steering shaft ( one inch additional clearance doesn't sound like much- but does make a difference!). I prefer to weld tabs on frame (every 12 inches) and them bolt down the floor. If you damage (bend) the floor it can simply be unbolted and replaced. Use alum floor with lots of drain holes drilled around pedals (to let sand drain and not have your throttle stick). |

| If you dont's want to add drain holes, the put an extra nut/washers between tube and floors. Lets sand and stuff drain. Or use steel mesh floors. |

| Its not a full floor it stops just past the pedals and continues on behind the seats. I bet it weighed 60-80 lbs. I will get pics up when it gets welded in this weekend. 8) |
