i have a line on a nice single cab. i'm really a bay/beetle guy but i did start with a 1980 westy. i'm a little gun shy with these water boxers and their head problems. i guess i have 2 questions.....
1) are there any obvious engine problems i can look for?
2) how desireable are these things?? i could use a truck for the summer but may not want to keep it forever. is there a market for them? i saw one sell here on the samba for $2k i think with no motor and rust! this one is not rusty, complete and seems to run and drive great. I can get it for $C3500 or so.
what do u guys think? |

Common is the heads leak from head gasket issues, but by 2005 most have been re worked and now are ok to run...
head gaskets are not all that hard to replace anyway. In regards to a bay/bug you will fall in love with the water cooled, the power the smooth ride and who knows....
