I am trying to decide on the brand/kind of tires for my 65 Swing Axle Baja Bug and could use some of your advice or experience. At first I was told to stick to a tire that has a rounder tread pattern like the Yokohama Super Digger (no longer available) for the rear and a street type tire for the front. Well I am having a heck of a time finding something like this that is street legal. But I really like the look and performance of Mud type tires but don't know if they are really suited for a swing axle. We mostly off-road in the High California Desert with an occasional trip to Ocotillo Wells on trails that are mostly rocks and hard packed trails with some sand washes. Tire sizes will be 30x9.50x15 on the rear and 215/75-15 on the front. Here is what I am leaning towards:
Rear/Front keeping in the spirit of the rounder style

Rear/Front Aggressive
Rear: BFGoodrich® Mud Terrain T/A KM

Front: Michelin® LTX A/T

Other ideas and suggestions would really be appreciated. Pictures of your Swing Axle Baja would also be swell! |
