does anybody know whats needed & what the charges are for importing vw parts to guadalajara,mexico? everyone who sells parts in mexico are way too expensive & most guys go to swap-meets & vw shows in the U.S. & sell them 2 or 3 times higher than what they cost & some of us dont make that much money, we just want to keep our v-dubs alive & well

Has anyone shipped a vintage beetle out of Europe/Germany recently to the East Coast?
(Jacksonville, Florida) would be a drive on running car (near concours) *see avatar* also is it possible to ship motors and transaxles/body parts, fenders doors etc. with or in the same container?
If anyone has any quotes or good suggestions for shippers out of Europe, Also if it`s cheaper I don`t have to ship it out of Germany, I would also drive the car to Belgium etc.

I purchased $1500 worth of goods (inc shipping) including a brand new set of 4 MWS Sprintstar wide five Replicas, dropped spindles bambus type parcel shelf and alot of other gear from CIP1.com on wednesday noon, to have it shipped to the UK...

I got a call on thursday morning to say it was in the country and arriving on friday morning!!!! :shock: :shock:

Thats got to be the fastest US to UK shipping ever?, the duty was resonable, as was the vat, so no surprises, i was extremely happy and everything was well packed and in great order.

I can't recommend CIP enough to anyone buying from the UK for those hard to source parts, i think i saved around £400 when all the items were added up.

they get a big thumbs up from me! :wink:

Now that my '58 Karmann Ghia is safely stowed away in my garage I thought I give a bit of feedback on the shipping experience.

My KG was bought from an owner in Berkeley in the Bay Area of California. Living in one of the UK's major Container Ports I thought it would be a simple operation to ship between Oakland and Southampton.

Going on recommendations from people who had shipped from the West Coast before I emailed for several quotes. Let me tell you, there is a lot of variation on quotes. Not surprising really but it does emphasise that you must shop around if you want the best price and your favoured route.

I got prices from $1300 - $3000 but nearly all required the car to be transferred by road from the Bay Area to Los Angeles at the cost of another $400. Again nearly all of thse quotes were from LA to Tilbury (London)...not what I had asked for. The lower prices were for transportation in a shared container which not only halves the container rate but also the Port Charges.

BTW I was keen to use a U.S. Shipping Agent as it's always the cheaper option than using a UK based agent.

Whilst talking to the person who was dealing with the sale of the KG for the elderly lady owner, it emerged that he used to work of a classic car company who used almost exclusively a Shipping Company out of Oakland called Aladdin Feight Int'l Inc. I phoned them and it appeared my favoured route, Oakland to Southampton would be no problem and all at a price of $1200 in a shared container. Incidentally if you want Oakland to Tilbury it's cheaper at $950.

I accepted their quote and paid the charges by International Bank Transfer. The lady I dealt with at Aladdin over the phone was Kristine Highsmith, very friendly, very efficient. Kristine's contact details are:

Aladdin of course have an appointed Shipping Agent in the UK to deal with the car's arrival in the UK. I'm pleased to say this agent was the highly regarded Kingstown Shipping and they really do live up to their friendly and efficient reputation.

All in all good reliable shipping agents can make life very easy for you. I was lucky in that I found good ones but as I said at the start, you do need to shop around to find someone who will do what you want...not what makes life easy for them.

Hi all,
We are looking at shipping our UK bus from the UK to the States for an extended holiday.

We have got a good quote for a Ro-Ro from Southampton to New York (900UKPounds one way in case anyone knows of anything cheaper) and are busy working out how we can take all the personal contents on the plane with us since you can't leave it in the van!

But does anyone know what forms and permissions we might need and whether we would need to modify the van for use in the USA and Canada.

This wouldn't be an import as such because it would be going back home at some point.

It is a UK spec 1972 Bay Dormobile conversion. Pretty much as it came out of the factory nothing fancy.

Any advice at all would be very welcome.

Hope you got a few quotes for the route you want. I would also check out Southampton - Baltimore Ro-Ro and containerised. A shared container is more secure and often cheaper.

Kingston Shipping here in the UK is a top handler but if someone has a good East Coast Shipper they can recommend, using a US agent can save you a lot of money.

Yes we got a few quotes although they are all UK based at the moment and all around £900 - £1000. Going to try http://www.goldenchariotsinternational.com/index.htm who normally import American Classics but seem to know what they are talking about and also recommend Baltimore as a Port of Entry.

Whilst you are on the line, can you recommend a VW Garage/Tuning specialist in the Soton area. I've used a few different ones around Hants and never really been satisfied with the results.

YEs and it was roll on roll off at the ship.. they tried to charge me for a fork lift but I had a go at them and in the end I found out they didn't have a fork lift and they were charging people for years and just towed the car on the ship

that was at Baltimore..

I'm trying to ship a convertible top from Alberta to the UK and am having nothing but troubles.

It's too big for Canada Post, I don't have an account to ship Air Canada Cargo and UPS wants almost $1000. Are there any other options? I've been trying to get this thing out of here for almost two months now and I'm sick of looking at it, help!

I think you'd have more success using a general shipping agent rather than postal services. What you need is a small corner of a container and sharing containers is common practice when shipping cars and so...I would imagine...is it when shipping smaller items.

Just do a Google on "Shipping Canada to UK" and fire off emails for quotes. I'm sure you'll find some reasonable quotes.

Never use a company called Interglobal Logistics based out of Oakland/San Mateo? The guy is called Gabriel and is a complete nightmare. I received my vehicles only after tons of phone calls and over 3 months later have still not received the paper work. This make the vehicles useless as I can not register them in the UK.

I phone them every night and I am told a different story, they NEVER reply to emails and just generally play games. After I started used them I did a Google search and found loads of similar complitains - BE WARNED.

To add to my last post KINGSTOWN shipping in the UK have been great and tried to help. I could not recommend them more strongly. they also have great contacts all over the world. Call them for advice and a quote.

Remember cheap is not always best!
