Thinking of more power in my 83 1/2. What type of conversions have others done and what are the pros and cons?

GoWesty 2.2 "conversion" in my '84 Wolfsburg non camper...........o.k. it's not EXACTLY a conversion but I love it......

Diesel to 1.8L from '92 GTI with CIS mechanical fuel injection. Conversion was done by P.O.
Pros: powerful, rugged motor, cheap parts that are a dime a dozen.
Cons: Need three different Bentleys.
I love driving this van and I have a local mechanic who specializes in these conversions but overall it's been quite reliable. On longer road trips I sweat a little bit because you can't always find a mechanic who knows what the conversion is all about, but good VW shops can figure it out.
To me it's worth it for the power, fuel economy and being able to drive up most hills in 3rd gear.

photogdave, I've seen your van around vancouver... Would you mind if i checked out the conversion some time? I've never gotten a close look at an I-4 in a van. Much less one with stripes :-)

And for the original question, my van is running a 2275wbx. Again, not technically a conversion, but not stock, either.

Has anyone done a Chevy/Ford/Dodge v6 or v8. And I'm not referring to the chop shop mid engine (conversions) either. I once saw a picture of a Chevy v8 in a 88 or 90 d cab. It was still in the rear, where it should be. I pull a trailer with mine and I'd like to go from 0 to 60 in under an hour. I'm up for just about anything that does'nt necessitate the movement of my rear seat. I have a donor 84 and can raise the rear engine cover as high as it needs to be raised. When I'm done with my conversion I want to be able to hook to my trailer and fly.
