I think i have narrowed a no spark problem to the hall sender...but am not sure...
-I pulled the fuel injectors to see if i was getting fuel...and i was
Does the Hall sender information control the fuel injectors?
If im getting fuel does that mean my hall sender is ok?

1985 1.9l

The coil feeds a signal to the ECU to fire the injectors. Are your injectors actually spraying, or do you simply have fuel TO the injectors being delivered by the pump?
If you have no spark, you'll need a Bentley to do the diagnostic procedure. There is a Hall effect sender and a module. If either is bad, replace 'em both. Make sure your ignition switch and coil are good. If you have a blob of what looks like tar coming out of your coil, replace it.

VERY rare for the hall sender to go bad. Replace the coil 1st.
Use the correct one..... do not use one for points, i.e. a blue Bosch.
79 to 83 Cal with the hall ignition used 211 925 115B [the Bentley is wrong, it says C]. Not sure, but I believe the 1.9 used the D, same as the 2.1 https://pointer.webappcabaret.net/busdepot/details.jsp?partnumber=211905115D

The older these cars get, the more often Hall effect senders fail. I've seen a few of them lately. saying it will never fail is becoming more of a gamble with each passing year.

I thought the hall sender in the distributor sent the signal to the ECU (the three pin plug and all that) to tell the van when to squirt the injectors and fire spark. So if you have squirt, the hall sender is OK.

Am i missing something here?

That's the reason I asked him if he actually had 'squirt', or just pump pressure to the injectors. If you get a pulse to the coil from the Hall, the Hall is working. If the Hall and the coil are working, the injectors squirt

Huh?

Where did I say NEVER???? BIG difference between NEVER and VERY rare.

I have been running the 79 Calif hall system in every bay bus I have owned. My 77 Westy has over 300,000 miles on a USED unknown miles hall module and sender and I have gone thru 3 coils and NO hall parts.

So if my Hall Effect sender goes bad, my noid light in the injector harness will not light up (assuming my grounds are OK and so is the ECU). Is that correct?

Try a coil 1st. A LOT easier than D&A a distributor to replace probably a good part. The FI ECU is close to bulletproof unless you got water in it.
The coil is what sends the trigger signal to the ECU.

If you are going to use the Mossberg approach to repairing it, at least start with the cheapest and easiest part to replace and the one with the highest percentage of failure.

If he took it to Speed Unlimited, do you think Ron would rip him off like he does every OTHER poor sucker in town>>>????

HAHAHAHA....

WestyNoobie Mon May 30, 2005 6:55 am

Ok to clarify...I put a pan under the injectors after i pulled them....turned over the van, and went back and saw the fuel in the pan....
I replaced the coil as my old one had a piece missing of the ceramics. Figured that was cheap relatively..
Still no spark....

weinerwagen Mon May 30, 2005 7:31 am

You sure the ECU is not gone south?

Randy in Maine Mon May 30, 2005 9:10 am

Very rare for a ECU to fail. Not unheard of, but very rare.

Start re-checking ALL your electrical connections including all of the grounds. Start at the battery and work your way forward.

Check all of your fuses also.

You have a wire off or broken someplace.

Tip: Go to radioshack and buy an "electrical contact cleaner" pen for $5.

Anyone who might be interested...i figured out my problem...It was the Ignition Control Unit...did the tests in Bentley...replaced the unit and BAM started right up!...Thanks to all who helped me diagnose..
