| I spent the whole day yesterday detailing the exterior of my 83 Westy. A job that took 6 hours (Damn there's a lot of real estate there). Thoroughly washed, lots of elbow grease with the polishing compound, cleaned the alloys, got the tar remover out (there was an amazing amount of road tar spots on the paint) and then carefully applied and buffed with a good quality paste wax. Man does she look beautiful. It's the first time I've done this since I bought her (previously focused on mechanical stuff). I'm wondering what the best treatment is for the top. It doesn't appear to be fiberglass. Anybody know what it is? What have any of you folks used as a treatment/protectant to keep it looking good? |

Paint it with something that does not "chalk". For whatever reason the factory paint on all Westies go "flat" in about 3 years from factory new.
I painted mine with rattle cans. When I wash it - it still looks like I just painted it. For the $27 and 1/2 a day I never have to scrub it or wax it again..
 |
