So I recently bought an 87 syncro on ebay. After owning it for 3 weeks I have already put 2000 miles on it, and haven't really had any problems other than the oil pressure light buzzing at me after I exit off the freeway. however upon returning from my most recent trip I noticed a slight hesitation, and then it wouldn't start. After letting it sit for a day it fired right up. I guess it was tired. There is however an odd fluid dripping off the coil. It is not oil, and feels like brake or power steering fluid. I am having difficulty determining the source of the leak. When I have the vehicle running I can see fluid dripping from the coil, but not being sprayed into that region. Is there a hose that is hidden from view that I am missing? I have had a few people take a quick look to try and determine the source with no luck. I am almost about to take it to a mechanic.

Coils have fluid inside them. Are you sure it's not from the coil itself?

Yes, coils are filled with oil to cool them.

The oil is very toxic. Filled with PCBs.

Remove and replace the coil - should fix it.

I thought that was what it was, but I have never heard of one leaking.

For some reason, leaking coils on Vanagons are quite common. Make sure you get the right coil- Bosch blues don't cut it for Vanagon ign. systems.

Its common, or so your the 2nd person to say so.

My guess is that its due to its location, its too hot down there!

My Bosch blue coil works well, but then I'm aircooled and should have points. :wink:

California aircooleds had Hall senders from late 1978. I should have specified water cooled Vanagons. My bad. :lol:

I just replaced a pool pump startup capacitor(I borrowed it from a friends nonfunctioning heatpump). I found out when they leak they are bad.
