So I recently bought an 87 syncro on ebay. After owning it for 3 weeks I have already put 2000 miles on it, and haven't really had any problems other than the oil pressure light buzzing at me after I exit off the freeway. however upon returning from my most recent trip I noticed a slight hesitation, and then it wouldn't start. After letting it sit for a day it fired right up. I guess it was tired. There is however an odd fluid dripping off the coil. It is not oil, and feels like brake or power steering fluid. I am having difficulty determining the source of the leak. When I have the vehicle running I can see fluid dripping from the coil, but not being sprayed into that region. Is there a hose that is hidden from view that I am missing? I have had a few people take a quick look to try and determine the source with no luck. I am almost about to take it to a mechanic.
Thanks |

| Coils have fluid inside them. Are you sure it's not from the coil itself? |

Yes, coils are filled with oil to cool them.
The oil is very toxic. Filled with PCBs.
Remove and replace the coil - should fix it. |

I thought that was what it was, but I have never heard of one leaking.
I will replace it tomorrow. Thanks! |

For some reason, leaking coils on Vanagons are quite common. Make sure you get the right coil- Bosch blues don't cut it for Vanagon ign. systems. |

Its common, or so your the 2nd person to say so.
My guess is that its due to its location, its too hot down there! |

| My Bosch blue coil works well, but then I'm aircooled and should have points. |

California aircooleds had Hall senders from late 1978. I should have specified water cooled Vanagons. My bad. |

| I just replaced a pool pump startup capacitor(I borrowed it from a friends nonfunctioning heatpump). I found out when they leak they are bad. |
