View original topic: Replacing Bleeder valve, a few pointers?

Hi all, I am in the midst of replacing a bleeder valve on my 85 Westy 1.9 manual, and I want to know if I need to lube the hoses with anything when I am sliding them onto the bleeder valve? there are three hoses one on either side and one coming from the heat exchange pipe to the bleeder valve. I am expecting to get my bleeder valve in a week, and am also wondering if I can drain the coolant and take of the old bleeder and let it sit without these parts for that week.(I of course will not be driving it). P.S. this seems like a simple job, let me know if it is not, or if any of you have done it? Thanks ,Joe

Nows a good time to drain and flush all the coolant. I think most of the popular antifreeze brands are now phosphate free. Opinions? No need to lube the fittings/hose with anything other than coolant.

The only brand I found readily available was Sierra in green container at Napa.
