I do not know that much about Porsches and was curious as to what is so special about those wheels to justify the steep price. Those would probably be the one of the most expensive set of wheels ever mounted on a Bus,just kidding. If just the wheels cost that much I could only imagine about the rest of the car!

Because they are lightweight alloy for the 4 cam 356 Carrera.

That is cool. Now I am going to have to look to find out what a 4 cam 356 Carrera is. Anyone have a picture? Are they rare?

Glenn Sun Jun 12, 2005 2:58 pm

Here's what the 4 cam engine loooks like. dual overhead cam (4 cams) driven by shafts and bevel gears with dual spark plugs.

These were used in the 550 Spyder, 356 Carrera coupe and Speedster and the 904.

This engine is worth well over $80,000 alone.

That is a pretty crazy looking engine. Wonder if it will fit in my Bus?

Why so many distributors? I mean honestly, are there more than one sparkplug per cylinder?

No, they are Porsche "ANNULAR" disc brakes.
That's the way they are supposed to be.

those carrera rims are the schnizzle... 4 years ago I thought of putting them on the double cab until I found a set of 4 selling at 7k and I changed my mind. I'd still like to have a single wheel for the collection though.

Are these wheels really that rare? I have two of these sitting in my shed and I had no idea what they were until I saw this post. How much are they worth in fair condition? No bends just need to be repainted.

Are we talking Porsche Carrera alloy wheels or just run of the mill VW steel wheels?

I sold a single 61 date code , in real good shape on Ebay two years ago , it went for around $600 . TROY

Pick one up. If it's real light... it's alloy. If it's heavy... it's steel.

svavr6 Thu Jun 16, 2005 7:18 am

Ya i dont think i have them here are some pics.

Glenn Thu Jun 16, 2005 7:22 am

Just the fact that I see rust tells me they are not Carrera wheels.

Steel rusts... not alloy.
