I thought I would put a pic of my bug up for you guys to look at and give your input. I finally got it on the road but I still have a long way to go before I can say it's finished. I still have to wet sand and buff the paint and their are a couple spots I need to touch up. As you can see I need some rims. But at least I can drive it as I work on it for now.
....What am I doing wrong? |

| Yea sorry about the quality of the picture it was about 2:30 or so in the morning. To be honest I want to get the buffing and a good wash before I let you guys see it in the day. I mainly wanted to know what people think about the color scheme. The paint is only temporary ( a couple years or so) I am hophfully going to wyo-tech next year and hope to give the car a ground up resto. Replace the floor pans with the fiberglass ones and the luggage compartnent fenders food and decklid. Even though all this is good with no rust I just want a project for when I get out of school. I plan geting a beater car while I do ths work.What do you all think about that idea? |

| Looks good and I like the colors. Don't particulary care for the "swirl" around the door handle, but that's me - and it looks well done from the pic. Rims will add a lot as well. |

Aesthetically speaking some basics are ditching the HUGE front & rear turn signals in favor of smaller ones. They could either come from another late model or you can find / make your own sectioned versions depending upon your abilities. 17" to 18" rims are a must, and can be found in a plethora of different styles (Preferably black or silver. No Chrome tho). Change the brakes to discs, and while doing so get them studded for the bolt pattern to match your new wheels. Now you should get to upgrading the suspension. You have an IRS in the rear correct? So you will have to purchase new springs. For the front I suggest getting dropped spindles as well as an adjustable beam. You might need slightly wider fenders in the front and rear so your wheels don't stick out beyond the fender. You can de-chrome the car altogether, or you can black it out like the guy with the red bug has done or you can leave it, but dont get gaudy. Change all of your window rubber to the call look style without the chrome trim. Paint is all up to you, but the majority of the ones I have ever seen stay with a clean monotone look. With all of that done, it should be looking pretty good, for a late model anyway..
Now function wise.. As I already mentioned go with disc brakes. You will need them if you plan on stopping as well as you will be going. You should upgrade the engine as well. Performance engines are at the heart of this style, and you can go with many different options. Most of these German Look cars are outfitted with some BIG Type IV converted power plants. The transmission will also need to be upgraded to be comparable to the engine. If you stay with the stock unit, you'll damage it.
This is all very expensive, but you'll have something that will be able to make a mockery of BMW's and look better while doing it. |
