howdy everybody,
i have a plan to slap a 2.0 914 engine in my karman ghia. now im under the impression it will bolt right up, do i need to change my wiring harness? and does anyone know where i can find a 914 engine in good shape? any help is greatly appreciated thank you. |

You will need a different flywheel to get everything to bolt up otherwise the input shaft length is going to be an issue. Probably be best to convert to upright cooling but I have seen a ghia with the engine bay trimmed to fit a stock T4. Invest the $30 in the Cali Conversion Manual - http://www.nextgen-usa.com/ - you will be glad you did.
Engines you can find lots of places. Check local scrap yards, newspaper, samba classifieds, etc. I have a pair of 914 engines in the barn and know of a couple of low mileage 412 engines just sitting in a shed so they aren't really that scarce. Late model busses also used the T4 so you could start with one of those as a core.
