First I was wondering if they made a steering box rebuild kit for a 54 steering box or which years would be correct. Reason being, I took my steering box completely apart so I could clean it all up and paint/powdercoat it and I wanted the gasket and maybe the bronze sleeve that is inside of it.

My next parts question was E-brake cables. Do they make E-brake cables for them? If not, do they at least make the rubber boot for them since that is all I really want to get in the first place? The cables are fine but one of the boots is slightly ripped.

My last question is kinda stupid. Can someone tell me what the tube that comes out of the front bulk head on the right side is for? I TOTALLY forgot what went through that tube. It is fairly large and runs back through the tunnel.

That's it for now. Thanks.

E-brake cables are still available for around $30-$50/ea They are quite a bit longer than 1956-later cables since the adjustment is in the front of the pan bulkhead. The repros are nice in that they also have the zerk fittings on them for greasing.
When you mentioned a boot, are you referring to the e-brake boot that goes around the brake handle? No repros are available, but Kochs did pick up 3 of them two weeks ago at Pomona. Expect the price to be $100+ for them.

The tube on the right side of the pan is for the choke cable.

When I mentioned the boot I was actually just referring to the rubber peice on the E-brake cables themselves. Where can I pick the Ebrake cables up. I always only see the 56 up ones and I always thought that it was becasue no one wanted to make the longer ones for earlier cars. if they do make them though, where can I pick them up?

How about the steering box? Does anyone have any info on that? Are earlier ones any different than later ones? Would it actually be better to run a later one? The only reason I took it apart was so that I could detail each part individualy. I thought it would come out better.

Thanks

www.vintagepartsinc.com www.wolfsburgwest.com or www.bfyobsolete.com should have 1950-55 e-brake cables

Hey Johnny,
If Nick passes on those NOS cables, I might be interested. When you state NOS, are they still in their original bags with VW logos?

Nah man......the price is probably goign to be higher than a set of new ones though. If it's not.......then PM me with the price and I'll prolly take them.

Oh yeah. I finally got my project off of the disassembly line and onto the assembly line. The pan came from powdercoating looking very nice. I am routing a pretty sweet brake system right now. It's coming together well.
