Do anyone know for sure what this number means?
It`s right behind the gas-tank, under the cardboard and insulation.
`m thinking it is a factory mark of some sort.. in the production line
no repairs that have been made under there. also since covered with cardboard and insulation, nor mechanic would bother to write just there...

Yep, those are factory grease pencil marks probably made by an inspector during production. |

| they are proof that the "quality inspector " had inspected the car.their were more "inspecters" than there were "builders" if a bad beetle was found they were rejected then fixed/repaired and back on line. they were required to "sign" that they checked the car for flaws. |
