My accelerator pedal broke off this morning as I was about to leave to work. The little rod that goes thru the floor broke somewhere underneath the floor and it just came up. Does anyone know of any pictures or diagrams for that part as well? Is it easier to buy a whole new pedal and assembly or can I buy individual parts?

I highly doubt the rod that attaches to the pedal broke. More than likely it was the hinge on the floor where the pedal pivots that broke. You need to figure out what broke first before you can figure out what to do to fix it. Check that hinge on the floor, under the rubber mat...almost a guarantee it's broken.

the hinge was already broken and disconnected and sitting on top of the floor covering when I got it. It had been working fine even with this. Then, something underneath happened. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet because I am traveling. Perhaps, I will take a pic when I get home, so it would give more light on the problem.

Thanks for the picture. I figured it out. First reponder was right. I went to the local VW store and they welded a gate hinge to the bottom of my gas pedal. Then I drilled three holes into the floor and used three sheet metal screws to tighten it down and it has been working perfect since then!

Either, it has no head, make sure the spring (flat or coil depending on the year) isn't in the depression in the middle of the pin and that it isn't stuck in the hinge from rust.

Is there a certain way this hinge comes off? Mine is all rust and what not, and i tried to bank out the center pin, but it aint goin no where. Is it just spot welded on to the floor? Do I grind it off? Thanks!!

The center pin should tap out after a good spray of penetrating oil to release the pedal. The hinge itself is spot welded to the floor.
