They say its a 84, but it has 87 lights. Later interior looks to be a 87. Look at the seats and dash, and steering wheel too. New engine for $2K? Bet its rust free too. BTW, Bezerkly is next to San Fran, Ericthenorse's stomping ground

Hey thanks for the heads up. I just bought it. Thanks again.

buspor63 Tue Jul 05, 2005 9:47 pm

And it's a Syncro!

weinerwagen Wed Jul 06, 2005 6:29 am

I saw that insignia! I thought,.....Syncro? Nawwww, maybe the company insginia...

SOMEONE GOT A DEAL!

mightyart Wed Jul 06, 2005 6:41 am

It's in The Samba Classifieds to.

weinerwagen Wed Jul 06, 2005 7:09 am

The price was right, probably "rust" free
and if it WAS or IS a syncro....dang talk about give away.

I have a neighbor down the street that has a Dark Blue Syncro Westie. All the factory options. alloys, etc. Says it's worth 16k or more....

buspor63 Wed Jul 06, 2005 8:23 am

The give away was the lack of a fuel filler by the right front wheel. Kinda hard to fake that. Even without an engine, its a keeper.

weinerwagen Wed Jul 06, 2005 8:40 am

Denver I guess is buying the van. For 2K what a deal....the owner clearly was not aware that it was NOT a 84...and had that 4x4 system on it....

I'm waiting for the Passat AWD deal of the century...it's gotta be Fresno State RED, and automatic, a V-8 and for less than 200 bucks.....

DanJReed Wed Jul 06, 2005 12:25 pm

Got to be an 87, they didn't make a Syncro in 84!!!

Man, thats a steal!!!!!!!

weinerwagen Wed Jul 06, 2005 12:59 pm

I talked to BMW man Bavarian this mona.,...guy in Berzerkly confirmed it was a syncro...for 2k...Bavarian Man got himself the deal of the Year. Him bein in Denver that syncro will come in handy next winter....

and the resale in Denver....bet its worth 10K as it sits...15K next winter
with a "new motor"...

dang, the LOTO rang for BMW

levi Wed Jul 06, 2005 4:42 pm

so let's see if I fully understand.........87 westy/syncro/adventurewagon........
2000 bucks.........
seems reasonable. I wonder if he has one of those crappy Berkeley houses to sell for 80,000 or some "reasonable" price.
Suddenly I realize my 86 westy/suby is way overpriced at the 10,000 or so I'm gonna sell it at.................

weinerwagen Wed Jul 06, 2005 4:45 pm

I talked to BavMan this morning, he chatted with the dude in Berkely, confirmed it was a syncro....

I think the guy in Berkley has maybe had too much pot? He gave it away
Denver got a deal.....I'm jealous!

BavarianWrench Fri Jul 08, 2005 11:06 am

If anybody is in Berkley and can do a drive by for me, please give me a call. I can't read this thread until end of business day, so a phone call would be the way to get a hold of me until then - 303-917-4510.

BavarianWrench Sat Jul 16, 2005 12:31 am

Look for the update on Monday night. It will entertain. I promise, thats all for now Volks. Out

weinerwagen Sat Jul 16, 2005 6:37 am

I drove right by Bezerley my friend, I hope you got the deal of the lifetime...

Now, after a day in the Bay Area, I gotta get rehab from all the angry bitter libbies I saw while up there in the bowel of the beast....

I took two showers last night, neither washed off all the anger....

Bottom line if seems to good to be true it is. He is a scammer, I flew to Berkeley, to get to the truth about this guys bullshit. I'm out a few bucks but I'll make it up in more then a few ways. The van was not the one in the photo. It was a really nice 84 2wd Adventure Wagon. Still not a bad deal at $2000.00. He had no intention of delivering the van to my tow guy with a blown engine though. I found it in a shop in Berkeley on a lift getting an engine installed. Keep an eye out for it. It may show up on the Samba. This guy is a crook and should be treated like one. Be warned Samba scammers are out there. I might write a short story about this one when it concludes. I've been too busy to do my laundry let alone deal with posting the whole story. Waiting for the spin cycle to end now so I can load the dryer and have some clean socks for tomorrow. The cops are working on him and I got $1500 back. If he doesn't make good on my payment and expenses I'll be looking for some help from the West Coast Crew. I offer my services to anybody buying a van in the Denver area who is from out of town. I'm willing to check it out for you. This is something we should do as a community for one another. I'll keep you posted and I welcome suggestions on how to legally make this guys life miserable. He has no qualms lying and stealing and is not worth getting in trouble over, but if we could give him something to think about that might keep him off the scam, I want to know. Thanks

I've been helping folks with evaluations for years. Some buy and others don't. Some buy not matter how crappy it is and you let them know it is crap. Some don't even if it is the deal of the century. Win some, lose some. I like to buy my cars face to face. That way there is no question.

It is sad that there are such scum. But with all the good there seems to be bad too. "What goes around, comes around" that idiot will get his too.

BTW: "You usually get what you pay for." Exception: Pick-A-Part.

I agree we all should make life hard for that ding dong. There is a great book that was called: "Getting Even." It is a cookbook of nasty things you can do to make life hard for such dinga lings.

I vote we post ways of making life hard for such a clown. Does that violate the site rules?

Is this the one that BW referred to in his post? It's from the same area and meets his description....sorry to the seller if it is not!

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=200188

levi Wed Jul 20, 2005 2:23 pm

NO that isn't it.....look at the very beginning o f this thread..

Hendoo Wed Jul 20, 2005 2:55 pm

The link I posted is in reference to it maybe being the one that the seller showed BW INSTEAD of the one advertised...

Quote from BW's post earlier in the thread... " The van was not the one in the photo. It was a really nice 84 2wd Adventure Wagon. "
