I am interested in purchasing a new type 2 VW Kombi from Brazil and pimping it up a just a little. All I want is the basic shell. Has anyone any ideas if you can get one and export it. I live in Belize Central America. Any help would be fab. I have tried VW Brazil and Brazil.com. to no avail.

I lived in M aya Beach near Placencia for a little while.

anyways wouldnt those be sold in Guatamala? Or are they selling the mexican versions there? You may be in for a road trip any way you look at it.

The newly built, Brazilian manufactured, modified 1968~79 VW Type 2 pattern vehicles, are now no longer equipped with the familiar flat-4, air-cooled, VW 1600 Type 1 Beetle style engine, with twin carburettors (for export to the UK, Mexican Bosch Digifant, electronic fuel injection and exhaust catalytic converter were substituted), which was discontinued in late-December 2005. They are now fitted with a four-cylinder, in-line, 1400 cc, water-cooled engine, similar to what was offered in Mexico.

(1) Does the rear window, have a window wiper & washer system?

(2) Which of the following, does each of the two cab-door mounted, rear-view mirrors (i.e. left-hand and right-hand sides), have?

(a) a single flat mirror-lens;
(b) a single spherical convex-curved mirror-lens;
(c) two flat mirror-lenses, in the same mirror housing;
(d) two spherical convex-curved mirror-lenses, in the same mirror housing;
(e) a single, variable-curvature aspheric mirror lens, with the two different regions, delineated by a vertical dotted line, of the type found on many modern vehicles, such as the German built, 2003 onward VW Transporter T5 (i.e. Eurovan).

I stopped at a VW dealer in Brasilia last week & looked at a 2007 Combi. I was told that the only option available is that a different color paint can be ordered, with a several month lead time.

Quoted price was 37,000 Brazil Reais, but one could probably be had for around 34,000. About 45% of this price is taxes.

There have been a couple write ups in the Brazil press about the new engine, reports are that it makes the combi much nicer to drive with the extra power - about 30 HP more than the aircooled motor.

I'm going to try & rent one when I go back in a few weeks. I'll post a driving report then with a comparison to my 70 single cab, with a 2178.

the price in Brazil is 40.000 reais, so around 18.000 $ with all taxes included... but this for use in Brazil, to export to other countries I don't know.

Thank you Luciano, for the information and pictures.

What are the width & height measurements of the cab-door mirror lenses? I like the nice large door mirrors, but I would like them even better, if they were either:

(d) two spherical convex-curved mirror-lenses, in the same mirror housing.

or

(e) a single, variable-curvature aspheric mirror lens, with the two different regions, delineated by a vertical dotted line, of the type found on many modern vehicles.

At sometime in the future, I might try to adapt the twin-lens, electrically adjustable mirrors, from a British & European, Ford Transit Connect van, which I think would have the appearance, of VW factory-fitted mirrors, using the adaptation methods I have in mind.

It's a pity they do not yet fit a rear-window wiper! Perhaps the rear windows, do not get dirty, in South & Central America!?!

In 1997/98, I sent two letters (one by airmail and one delivered in person, by the father of my acquaintance), to the research and development director, at the Volkswagen factory, in Saõ Paulo, Brazil, describing my own 1973 VW Type 2, cross-over-arm, pantograph rear-window wiper system, based upon my own simple adaptation, of the standard factory-fitted rear-window wiper, of the Vauxhall Chevette estate car (i.e. British equivalent, of the Chevrolet Chevette stationwagon, manufactured in Brazil), of which I have posted pictures in The Samba Gallery.
