Does anyone know if a '69 Beetle has low and high beam headlights? In the owners manual it says that there is a way to adjust brightness, but I can't tell any difference. Thanks.

Yea, My 69 beetle has high and low beams. You just have to pull back on the light knob on the dash above the radio. It has two settings pull the knob half way for just parking lights or pull it out all the way for low beam headlights. Then when you have the low beams on you can turn on the high beams by pushing the turn signal arm back. A blue light should come on in the speedometer. You can adjust the brightness of the gauges by turning the light knob. Thats all :D

Hi Volks,
1966 and later that was switched by pulling the signal switch toward one. Pulling out the light switch to the last stop just switches on the headlights. Lows and Brights are actually not that differant in brightness. Only 55 and 60 watts for the stock bulbs. the differance is really in the aim of between these. Have someone shine a flashight on your chest after dark. This will simulate low beams. Then move the light up into your face. This will simulate high beams.
Good idea to get a multimeter and check throughout the wiring for any voltage resistance (clean, apply dielectric grease and tighten ALL connections) and miss wired electricals. Doing those has given us nice bright headlights with less than .1 volts drop, where before it was nearly 2 volts and yellow headlights.
