| So I just sold my van to this guy and he called me back saying that the engine leaks. I Told him" well yeah Its an 84 with 200k miles on it. Now he asked me how much I think it would cost to replace the seal. I don't know. Anyone know whats involved in that? is it just an oil pan or do you have to split the case? |

Bet it's the sump.
Could be the valve cover gaskets.
Main seal replacement is a problem because...
Why did it fail? Poor installation (after 200k, unlikely). "tired?" Again, doesn't really happen. Excessive oil pressure from worn bearings? Usually!
Check the thrust before replacing a main seal as you usually need a rebuild rather than a new seal (unless you enjoy replacing them... more and more often!).
Could also be the tranny input shaft seal... less likely but has happened to me a time or two on the air-coolers.

Just tell them that VW leak...er.....mark thier spot...yeah....thats the ticket. Just look at the AE add, all the cool kids are doing it. |
