I have a 1956 and 1957 oval bugs and I want to put a ragtop on both of them. I have access to a extremly cheap 1962 ragtop bug but not sure if the rag mechanisim would be the same for the 62 as either the 56 or 57. I want to put the correct type ragtop on the both, I know there are 2 fold and 3 fold ragtops and not sure what years have what. Thanks for any help

I believe I was told that '55 was the end of the 3 fold, to go to the 2 fold in '56 onward.

There are actually 3-styles of sliding cloth sunroofs.
1950-55 used a 3-fold mechanism with 4 squared corners
1956 used a 2-fold mechanism with rounded corners in the front & square corners at the rear
1957-63 used a 2-fold mechanism with 4 rounded corners

and 63-67 standard had 4 square corners with one piece rails like some 63 4 round corners.

63 was the last year for the sliding rag top and 64 was the 1st year for the "moon" roof style or hard sun roof. in my 56 rag it has the front rounded and the rear square.

Partially right. As Bill said, ragtops were still available on Standard models. Thanks for playing.

So ragtops were available all the way through 67? Were they pretty rare or what? Were they available in America?
