So, Edel's oil bath is broken and I've put in a temp patch until I can get a replacement for it or fix it. Looking at it though, it is different from Suzie's even though both of the girls are the same year and model.

Suzie -

Note the bulbous affair on Edel's oil bath. It's not on Suzie's oil bath, so that leaves me with a question. Can I get one like Suzie's for Edel or do I have to get the exact same one?

Thanks!

The one in the first picture looks correct to me. It is identical to the one on my 72. I think the only criteria would be the diameter of the opening on the bottom of the cleaner. If you're running the stock carb on both, as it looks like you are, then they should be interchangeable.

The diameter is the same for all years with solex carbs... you can run whatever year you want... I even run early 40 hp style on 1600DP's

Cobey I have several around if you want to get one.

Okay Cobey I have been buys with some other stuff and have not had a chance to address the wing vent parts... I'll PM or e-mail you on that and a deal on an oil bath.

It definitely looks like Suzie has the cleaner carb for sure.

LOL. Yeah, well, her's is less than a month old and Edel's has ~40k more miles in it. LOL. I was tempted to switch them since Suzie is up for sale (shameless plug) but decided to leave it as is. :)

I've noticed that, according your sig line, Suzie is for sale. When folks become so attached to their beloved little VWs that they start naming them, can they then sell them?

When it's a choice of sleeping with your wife or sleeping in your beloved car, yes.

Suzie needs a makeover...

ROFL. That's Brilliant Orange, the original paint. Which, oddly, I discovered is Edel's original color as well. (You can see it peeking through on the decklid on the oil bath picture.)

ON THE ENGINE???? sure looks like Chevy engine block orange to me! :?

Oh! No idea what color that is. PO did it, and I had been slowly taking it off and repainting as time and need permitted.

Kinda off topic, but I see that you still have the fuel filter on the pressure side of the pump. I read somewhere on the Samba last year that the filter should be moved to the tank side of the fuel pump. (which I did to mine). Is this wrong?

Thanks,

Scott
