| I just purchased a 79 convertible super beetle, and the steering column/wheel is loose. If you look at the wheel like a clock it will move about 3/16" from 7 o'clock to 1 o'clock. There is also a rubbing sound like plastic against plastic when I turn the wheel. My guess is that I am missing some type of support ring for the steering shaft. |

| i belive there is a serated shim on the shaft, kinda like a ruffled collar |

| do you know if you can access it from the steering wheel end of the steering column? |
