I am fixing up a 68 bug that i bought. i am planning on putting in a modern sterio, and i was wondering if anyone has ever moved the battery from under the rear seat, to allow for custom 6x9 boxes under the rear seats. i was thinking about also making a custom box for behind the rear seat that would house the battery, a 12'' sub and an amp.
Has anyone ever done this? is it too much? or any other suggestions.

I am not looking for big show off bass or speakers, but just a system setup that sounds good. I really like Jazz and clasic rock, not a ton of street bass.

thanks

I have a set of pioneer 6x9's and a pioneer cd/mps player. It is more than enough for a beetle! Made a speaker tray for the luggage compartment...so it acts like a box. Sounds very good!

Just do a set of 6x9s and a sub in the rear, that'll give you the sound you're looking for. Not too much, but just enough.

had a '73 super once, I made some panels out of luan (pardon the spelling if it's wrong) it's lightweight plywood usally around 1/4 inch thick.
took the inner quarter panels out traced the shape, put some sound deadener in.(spray on undercoat  ) wired 'em up...and rocked out.
I won't lie... it's time consuming...but all custom tricks are. it was well worth though. even if the radio ain't on it's that much quieter inside.you can also cover the panel, paint it, or stain it and seal it. i stained and polyurethaned it looked quite handsome. a shame the rest of the interior looked like crap, but oh well. get creative all you need is a cheap jig saw and the wood.just check the depth,i had to surface mount my 6x9's.
