Aloha....

I live in Hawaii and I picked up an 57 Beetle back in 2001 and now I'm heading back to mainland American next month -- I've been shopping around for car insurance (for those who don't know, if you live in Hawaii you might as well be on another planet as insurance goes)... and have gotten pretty frustrated.

Anyhow - I've realised that since I've been on the islands, the rest of American car insurance companies have decided not insure my car at value (restored daily driver worth about 8-9,000) - they will only insure the junkyard value. I've called most all of the big companies and get the same answer.

I went to a few classic car specialty companies and they tell me I can't drive more than 5,000 miles a year.

I'm no dummy - I know how to disconnect my speedo to turn of my counter, but was wondering if anybody knows of any companies that would insure my ride (Washington State)...

Mahalo!

Call Hagerty or Grundy. They offer no mileage limitations.

that advice sucks. they also have specific clauses stating that you cant daily drive it or drive it to work, and that you have to have a new car on a conventional policy to receive coverage from them.

i have full coverage with liberty mutual on all of my old cars. i have to rotate 'em though, because it would be too expensive to insure 'em all at once. when my 356 was nearly totaled last year, we agreed on a settlement based on prices in a classic car price guide. it all worked out fine and i got to keep the car.
