Just thought I would ask here first before I spend a whack of time trying to figure it out. Probably a stupid question but I am not good with wiring. Help me trouble shoot if you will. I reinstalled my tank(repainted) and the sender in and now the gauge doesn't work. Would it be just a ground? Any suggestions would help as I am driving it to Seattle this weekend and would be great to have it working. Any hints on testing it to see if it the gauge or the sender would be great to.

The sender grounds out to the tank through the mounting screws. The tank grounds to the body through it's mounts. The paint might be preventing it from grounding. You could run a wire from one of the sender bolts to ground to help it ground itself.
You can test the gauge by disconnecting the wire at the sender and touching it to ground. The gauge should peg at Full (ignition on). If it doesn't, the gas gauge ground is bad or the gas gauge is broken (unlikely). |
