I have been researching paint colors on the 1952 bug. I have found several pictures where the deluxe bug is painted the 2 tone colors like the Convertables were painted. Does anyone have any information regarding these paint schemes, were these special ordered paint jobs from the factory? These are pictures dated from 1952 That I have seen. I'll try to post one for you to see.
Thanks for any info.

| Though not factory applied, I'm sure anyone willing to spend the extra dosh could request anything for their little VW, including two-tone color schemes |

VW never painted cars two tone. That was a Karmann and Hebuller only thing.
The car in the pic you posted is not a 52. It is a 50 (or a late 49?). If that pic is dated 52, that gave them 2 years for the second colour to be added. |

| I'm not sure about the paint but they sure had some hot spokesmodels back then... |

| That car looks pre '49 to me. It looks like it has an L hand front hood handle. Also note no horn grills and horn on bumper bracket mount out side of fender. I was wondering if it is a picture of one of those early cars the guy would import to england and have repainted with delux trim and bumpers as well. |

It's got a rectangular rear view mirror. That started in 49 I believe. |

Ok so the color scheme goes back further than the 52, but there are several other pictures I have come across with the same paint schemes on Splits. Pretty neat they were into customizing there bugs back then as well.

| I know this is an old thread, but I read the answer today and thought I would share... John Colborne-Baber, a car salesman, started obtaining beetles from ex-servicemen as they came over the English Channel in '47. He would then repaint the sides only to cover the scratches of the slightly used vehicles. Baber was the first person licensed to deal VW in the UK. Hope this helps info obtained in Classic Volkswagens by Colin Burnham. |
