| I went with basic(cheap). Just a vacuum gauge I got for free. The FI pressure gauge that Randy suggested(great tool) and a compression tester from any retailer. They rarely get used so they are good enough. I want a leakdown tester. I may go with the aircraft one( link provided recently ) or save a buck or two and get one from Harbour Freight. |

I have an ancient compression tester -$20 , timing light with crank in advance -$75, and Volt Ohm Meter -$20 all from Sears.
A dwell/tachometer from "the Nixon years" from someplace that I can't remember. I don't have any cars with points (but I am looking for one!) but I find the tach handy to set the idle and it is more accurate than the VDO one in the dash (along with OP, OT, and CHT). If I had any money I would replace those with the Dakota Digitial ones.
And I recently replaced my $8 Home Depot water pump gauge with a $20 VDO fuel pressure gague that fits right in there.
I bought one of those leakdown testers that ratwell likes from the aircraft place in Hartford CT for about $75, but I have not used it. (I really bought that for the jeep and subaru though). |
