I may have missed the thread but I am building a 74 baja on a 69 pan. From what I have seen it looks like the 74 tranny is good for this application. Soooo I pulled out the early tranny today and lordy look what I found. The trans mount on the pan is different. two holes on the early tranny and three hole in the 74 one where it bolts to the pan. Should I just put int he early one or can the 74 be fitted with out re-inventing the wheel?
I know it may have been asked but I will run P235/75/R tires. What gear ration is best without having to go to a bus one and what year.

You need to use the nosecone from the 69 tranny on the 74 and it will fit.

i had put in a 74 trans in my '69 and so far no problems. yeah, that pesky nose cone needed to be changed but that was all. i put in a new gasket for the nosecone and changed over to urethane motor mounts. holds strong. Dave.

something to think about is that a 74 tranny would be geared taller, possibly giving you a little more problems when/if you plan on running larger diameter tires

I have been trying to read all I can on what tranny would be best short of having one built or a bus. I actually had an early tranny in it but what I have seen here and other sites seemed to lean to the 72 and up for some reason. I know 4th is a higher gear but what about 1 thru 3. I am only running 235/75/R15's on it.

I just got the pan finished. Just got the body paint finished. I mounted the body back on the pan today. How do I post a picture right here on the forum?

There is only room for 1 class 11 bug here :lol: . So I would appreciate it if you chopped yours into a Baja, and sell me your wheels. I need another set for spares, Later,Mitch.
