| On the way home from the All Air Cooled Gathering my '81 Westy developed a noise in the right rear, which sounded exactly like the noise that was cured by rebuilding the CV joint 6 months ago. The noise appeared when we were negotiating some flooded highways in heavy rain and then stopped when the rain stopped. Any suggestions? |

Could it be a CV joint with water? Any boots torn? Did you re-torque the bolts recently?
I think I would want to have a look in there before it gets expensive. |

Perhaps the quantity of grease in the joint (s) was inadequate and until it warmed up again it was a little dry?
Wheel bearings tend to get progressively louder, especially when going faster or turning away from the "bad" side.
