This '57 bug has sat around for a few years. The fuel line was clogged up, so I removed the tank and got a new fuel valve, screen, etc. The old valve was gooped up.....so I figure the bottom of the tank is "gooped" up along with some rust rattling around in there.
Got the "Gas Tank Sealer kit" from Eastwood....but there's no order of use. I know the Gas Tank Sealer is used last (I'm not a total idiot).
There is a "Metal Wash" and a "Oxisolv Rust Remover". I'm guessing that the goop in the tank has to be dissolved first and rinsed out.
Is the Metal Wash used first, Oxisolv second, then finally the Gas Tank Sealer?
I also read on a previous post something about a half gallon of Muriatic acid in the tank with some bolts or chain. Also some mention about using a gallon of Acetone...........I think if I get to mixing all these chemicals I could be asking for trouble (or even a visit from the local bomb squad!!!)
One last note......I don't have any local places that will boil out or acid dip the tank.
Thanks guys!!!

As noted..I got the kit directly from "The Eastwood Company".
They make all kinds of Auto Restore stuff.

| I think you've answered your own Q. Not familiar with the Eastwood stuff, but it' seems pretty similar to the POR15 process. Degrease first, then derust, then seal. |
