Ok well Im down to the fine details on my rail i am building. I have an empi T-shifter and need help with a shift rod. I got a piece of stainless steel rod at work and milled it down to the same OD as a stock vw shift rod. Should there be any bends in it? I am having problems with the ball of my shifter not seating all the way down into the shift rod end piece (it is off a stock shift rod). Does this mean that i need to adjust the hole that was pre-drilled into the shift box? Any help is appreciated guys. Thanks

This is the single toughest part of a rail... getting the rod aligned.

Did you weld your box with the bushing in yet?

Most people weld the box too early and start forcing things around....

Your alignment should be perfectly mating... not off at any angles.... much of the bend vs no bend depends on the box you're using along with the tranny input shaft.

I got frustrated with ours and choked .. picked up the super shifter Brad suggested.

An absolute must for the custom built shift-rod is the shift-rod shortening kit. It allows 2" of back and forth, and unlimited side to side adjustment when getting your shifter perfect. An early shift-coupler must be used.
