View original topic: Does the rear split glass have SEKURIT LOGOS? Goto page Previous  1, 2, 3, 4  Next

Yes, a few folks emailed me awhile ago telling me about the "tempering" marks on the glass. I think Kaefer-Nostalgie is actually selling tempered glass now with these same marks. In a pinch I'll make a set of SEKURIT glass, but I won't sell glass due to liability and logo issues, here is what my aluminum stencil looks like:

The 49 I had, Had logos on the rear windows. but not the Large Sekurit. They were tiny logos.Re stenciling is for chumps. its all about OG glass!

Thank GOD for the web, huh?

Yeah man, that's how I found the Bugshop years ago. You got me interested in Volkswagens again, John!

my 50 has no logos. the spare glass i have, one with, one without.

The Sekurit logo on my 47 rear glass has slightly bigger spacing than the Sekurit logo on the rear glass from my Jan 51 split if that helps, both have logos, both unrestored.

Cheers
Kev

The grocery store near my house has SEKURIT glass in the deli case. I think from sweden. Also volvos has SEKURIT glass.

Dave

My dad's 96 porche also has glass marked sekurit as well. Safety in German is "Sicherheit" which is a lot like "Sekurit". It could be a brand name made up to sound a lot like the real word kinda like Kleenex???

Brezelwerks Wed Jan 04, 2006 12:31 pm

Doesn't seem to be alot of information regarding those "dots" on the large logo Sekurit glass, but this question has been embedded in some other thread somewhere previous here. My stencil matches my original door glass on my May 50 split, which I just took a pic of here and posted:

May also be useful to know the types of marks on what year car they are found on other folk's cars, if the glass is known to be original, please post when able.

I have 5 pieces of large letter Sekurit glass and on all of them the logo is blasted on the inside of the glass (with letters reversed). Does your stencil work on the backside of the glass Gary? Is your original glass outward or inside logo'ed??

UZI Thu Jan 05, 2006 12:21 am

who said glass is a liquid? i think we covered this in highschool chemistry class

Brezelwerks Thu Jan 05, 2006 2:24 pm

Hey John, my stencil is reversed in the picture, the flat side of it rests against the inside/interior side of the glass, so it reads Sekurit left to right from the outside of the car, same as on my 50 drivers side glass.

carbon date your glass to really know if it is original or not. Otherwise, this discussion is useless.

Do any of you really think that aasembly of these cars was that cut and dry, that sucinct? Come on.

It (was) a factory. Signing a piece of glass with your MFG logo (Sekurit) and particulars such as date (dots) was as important to the the assemblers and factory as what square out of 3000 scotts toilet paper roll squares I wiped my ass with during my last shit.

Come on.

The combinations are endless, and unless a log of production exists to detail this kind of information,...it is unrealistic to think that some sort of standard can be arrived at here, during this discussion.

I've owned two splitwindow beetles with extremely well documented history. My ragtop was purchased from the original owner. I have a list of EVERY single thing that was done to the car over the years, including how much gas was put in the car at what mileage. I can guarantee you, the rear windows were never replaced and neither cars had the logos on them. Late 51 to Mid 52.

2 '51's. No logo's.

Well as much as I believe Kevin (and I do), I hear this claim made all the time. Unless you personally owned and drove the car its eintire 50+ year AND no one else ever touched or worked on it, NO ONE can say "I know for a fact that my car is original".

Just becasue ONE person owned a car before you did, and was meticulous aboutwriting stuff doen to it down, STILL does mean that you know for sure that it was never modified outside of the documented items.

{but it does make for some interesting discussion..... :) )

Careful John. You'll piss him off. And you never know what he'll say after that.

Fine. I'll call the original owner up and ask him.

Come on now John there are somethings you just know. My early 51 has no marks in the glass, and I just know it's original.

Yeah, I wonder why all of the other glass is original with the logo, but yet they decided to replace the back windows??? They break soooooo often ;)

P.S. - I'm quite certain Paul H.'s original paint 52 did not have the logos on the back either. Take a look for yourself.

now that was a fine looking rear window. original seals and no logo on the glass. in fact, i got in contact with the guy who originally installed the rear glass on the assembly line and he assured me that the glass had no logos on them in april 52.
