  View original topic: scratchy steering?

For the first 2-3 minutes of driving, the steering wheel on my 88 westy seems to be scratching against something. Not too loud, but definitely noticeable, then it stops. Actual steering still seems good and tight.

Maybe I'm making this up, but I thought I saw someone talking about a very similar symptom some time ago.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

All vanagons are a little itchy on start-up.
My used to rub on the plastic housing cover a little and made a rubbing noise. The turn signal assembly or the horn ring could also be a place to look.

Mine scratches on the horn ring. I am figuring out how to fix it!

Try talcum powder in the offending rub-zone.
