I was looking in the vanagon parts section and came across a company that is offering a rebuilt 1.9 and 2.1 for 1500 bucks and larger 2.2 and 2.3's for around $2100.00 the company is "Quality German Autoparts" located in the Los Angeles area. Has anyone done business with these folks? good/bad and better yet,has anyone purchased an engine from them? I am looking to get a new motor for my westy and the Gowesty engines sound like an excellent choice but,,,, Gowesty also seems to have the most sophisticated ad strategy --lots of info on the website, articles, customer feedback, and so on. Its hard to not want an item they sell. I do have to wonder if a compeditors engine could be of similar quality and just be lacking all the extra hype that a good website can bring

thanks

:D basically what you pay extra for at Go Westy, is the extra work, and better quality parts that go into their motors. most places will throw in the cheapest pistons they can get(read about pistons on GW site). and a set of cheap heads, and call it done.. The main difference is that GW uses new heads, ports them, and installs new valves. gives you a custom grind cam, and very high quality pistons. When they designed their big motors, they actually used a dino, so they could squeze all the reliable horsepower they could.

I am not knocking the other guys, I am sure they do great work. It is just a matter of what you are looking for. If you can't afford to drop 6k on a westy motor, by all means, get one from Quality german auto. I have never seen one of their vanagon motors, but I do know of people that have gotten rabbit and audi motors from them, and were happy..
