I just love cruising down to Jones Beach, which is 7 miles from my home.

Jones Beach State Park is an barrier island off the south shore of Long Island. The island is maybe 1/2 mile wide at it's wides with a 4 lane road (2 each way) running down the middle for 17 miles and no intersections.

I've been to New York once in my life...17 years old, family of 8 in a new '86 vanagon, cross country trip...MISERY! We drove up from Florida through the Carolinas, D.C., etc. We stopped at one beach THE WHOLE TRIP...JONES BEACH! Being from So Cal., We were like "where are the waves, is this a lake?" Sorry---Flashback!...Bug looks good anyway.

Actually Jones Beach is listed as one of the best beaches in the USA.

It's 17 miles long and there are places where the surfers go and places where there are no waves.

Are you sure you were on the ocean side and not the bay side. The "other" side is on the Great South Bay and it's like a lake.

Honestly, I have no idea of the exact location, I just remember it was like any So Cal beach (chicks, seagulls, etc.) just no waves...and you didn't have to park a mile away!
