| I have a sandrail with an 1835 with dual 40 webers. The engine is new has a 110 cam stock heads, ect. - It's been tuned and fine tuned. Runs fine in all gears but 2nd. Unless a high rev is kept anytime I go into 2nd gear it bogs. If the high (or super high rpm) rev isn't kept the vehicle bogs and stops/dies. I'm wondering if this is a jetting or trans problem? If anyone has run into this problem let me know. Also the Webers have been recently rebuilt. |

| Anybody find a fix to this or what the issue was? I am having something similar occur on my 1915 running dual 45mm Dellortos. |

Nice to see this question asked. I have the same situation with a 1776 with dual Solex 40/44s.
My guess was that someone put a short first gear in my transaxle to pull stumps with it, or something... |

Could your shift linkage be off, causing you to shift to 4th instead of 2nd?
I would check that.
Also, I would start of in 3rd instead of first sometimes, my shift rod that is attached to the nosecone was loose.
EDIT:
Guess not if 4 people have the same problem. I dont think everyones linkage could be off  |

Ha,
I will probably be no help as far as testing until the end of September (leaving for Russia) - I think I destroyed my throwout bearing. I am going to go through again and verify everything I can that doesn't require me to be flying down the highway in the mean time. |

Think about this for a second. It runs fine in all gears except for 2nd gear? That means something is wrong with second gear.
I do find it hard to believe that everyone posted that only second gear gives them problem, but not 3rd and 4th. Is someone mi-reading the problem or is the VW just bogging in general? |

Well,
I never made it to 3rd or 4th as I was running mine at the dunes with paddle tires and had my throw out bearing go before I could really dig into things. |

| It seems to me that a problem only in second gear could be indicative of a very short first gear, which doesn't allow the car to stay in the "sweet spot" when hitting second, as a result of lack of top speed in first. The rest of the gears may be "spaced" appropriately. |
