| Well, it depends, of course.... Demand for these cars is not high. A car that is overall in pretty good running/driving shape, but needs a little attention to everything, does not seem to be worth all that much unfortunately. Advertising it nationally on the internet would probably be the most likely way to sell it. Has it been garaged? How is the interior (dash especially)? How about the rear engine lid (very vulnerable to rust)? What condition is the windshield in (vulnerable to delamination/clouding)? Drivetrain and brake parts are easy to find as they are shared with other models. Body, glass, and trim are generally only available used with some parts nonexistent outside of mint, original cars. Some front end/steering parts might have to be custom fabricated as Type 4 guru Ray Greenwood says, even new, much of it was made of poor quality materials, and barely good enough new from the factory, let alone after deteriorating for 30+ years on a shelf somewhere, or on the car itself certainly. If it is in nice original shape with no major visual defects, $1500 is within the realm of sanity IMHO. Start deducting from there for any major defects- faded paint, rust, dents, ripped/worn seats, cracked dash, cloudy windshield, etc... If it is virtually flawless low-mileage original, likely there is a buyer out there who might pay much more, but he might have to wait. Check prices here on The Samba, ebay, type4.org, etc... and compare the condition. |
