I just finished installing a type 3 front end with disk brakes on my 70 baja. As soon as I tighten the calipers down on the spindles the brakes lock up. Thinking that driving aroud would loosen them up I took a spin around the block only to find that the brakes wouldn't let the car get out of 2nd. I tried jamming the brakes hard to set the pads in the calipers, but nothing helped. Any ideas?

My guess is that the caliper housing is being pulled too much against the disk. I added a spacer washer/shim to center the caliper....Hope this helps...

Can you even install a Type 3 front end onto a beetle? Why not just swap out the spindles? Later,Mitch.

That did it. Thank you. OOOOOOH so nice to have disk brakes.

A type 3 front end bolts right to a bug pan.

I drove it around town a little to get a feel for the new front end without the fiberglass one piece. You should have seen the looks I got.
