View original topic: Curious about the best year(s) for bajaing?

I am looking to get into a Baja, and I need to know what year or years would be the best to look for. I know I don't want a super, but other than that, I really don't have anything specific to look for. Anything you guys/gals could tell me would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
V-DuBaja

Street or offroad?

For street --- post 71 are the easiest to do a t4 engine conversion and have a low-cost method to convert to ghia disk brakes... plus 4 bolt off road rims are less expensive

For offroad... pre 66 have king pin front ends -- not ball joint.

Before finding a bug to cut --- look for one already done -- bajas have low reasale value.

Depending on how extreme you wish to go pre 66 is fine for the king pin front end but you are limited by the swingaxle trans.66-68 have both ball joint and swing axle and 69 and up has irs but the ball joint front end.If you plan on going extreme with your set up( coilovers, full cage) then i would start with a 69 or newer because you will want to increase the wheel base anyway so cutting off the frame head and running the cage through is the way to go and you'll already have irs.

Thanks for the info everyone. You've definately given me a lot to think about. I'll keep you all posted on my search as it progresses, and throw out any other quesitons that arise.

Thanks again,
