Just aquired an 87 westy
Had the LP Gas tank filled, after it was full the LP guy removed the fill nozzle and it began to hiss and leak. He told me that these westys had a automatic shut off valve and it was not holding. When I asked him about fixing it, he told me to buy a whole new tank and not bother to fix it. The tank looks good , no rust and the vehicle only has 108,000 mi on it.
Any comments, can it be updated or should I call Go Westy?

| Auto shut off? mine has a valve with a big round knob that you turn on and off, sometimes it sticks and hisses, I need a new valve, but That's all I'm going to buy, not a whole new tank. |

In my brief ownership of my 88 westy, I have found that Go Westy is very willing to help answer any questions (via email at least) and of course sell you the right part to fix it. I can't believe you would need more than a regulator...but check with them

Along the same lines, how the heck can you determine how much LP you got left? do those magnet strips work?
Thanks! |

"Use the SEARCH, Luke."
Here's what I have done for my tank (just in the last couple of weeks):

BTW: You will most likely not need a new tank, a "GOOD" place can hook something up that will be safe.
Don't forget to recertify your tank while you are at it!
You want to be safe, don't you? |

When my autostop failed, I replaced it with some standard LP fittings that the gas and supply house had. It's worked for many fills since. You can see the large fill valve and the smaller bleed screw up high. The bleed is located about at the 80% level. |

So how does work? How do you fill?
I kinda think that is what the guy was talking about at the tank place. But, I am not exactly sure, because my valve is working fine. For now. |

| The fill guy attaches to the large yellow valve, opens the bleed as he starts to fill. When liquid comes out of the bleed, he shuts off the fill line and closes the bleed. |

That's kinda what I thought.
Wonder about servicing the Auto-Stop? Or who makes it now? Can't imagine that thing or something similiar is not made any more. |
