I was wondering what people thought is a safe RPM to hold the engine at while highway driving? I have a 87 2.1L and try to keep things just below 4000 rpms, but take it alittle higher here and there.

:D That is perfect.... up to 4000 rpm is the prefered cruising RPM... as long as you don't go into the red for more than a second or two,

4K RPM gets me right to about 70 mph indicated. Still not fast enough to keep from getting tailgated on the freeway. In the future it will be a bigger engine and bigger tires so I can, atleast, sort of keep up with traffic.
