Hey BBug I am an AVN tech with 409 SQN and I am an armourer so I load the Bombs and eat the banana's. What trade are you? 8)

BBUG Mon Jun 18, 2007 1:44 pm

Well very interesting Matt58veedub were you originaly an armourer or just that now. I was an engine tech then shortly after the AVN bit I changed to ACS It's been good no regrets 20 years plus now Any shots of your58 on the Samba?

Matt58veedub Mon Jun 18, 2007 4:30 pm

Well BBUG I have just 6 years in so I joind as an AVN tech but now they revamped it so I am AVN-C Which is Armourer's and saftey system's joined together. A and B AVN's are engines and airframe techs now. I was an armourer from day 1 in 441 sqn so it really makes no differance to me. Anyways I don't have any pics of my van yet but I just got a digital camera so should be soon. By the way what kind of veedub do you have over there on the east coast? Are there alot of air cooled veedubs up there because the scene is pretty small up here in norther alberta.

BBUG Tue Jun 19, 2007 4:15 pm

I have a 73 standard that I use as a daily driver I've recently repainted it both inside and out as well as put in a homegrown headliner there doesn't seem to be too many bugs out here. I went through my 3's for ACS in 2000/2001 we may have been there at the same time

We will be in the Brampton/ Toronto during the Christmas holidays. Anything in the world of VW's going on? We are from Oklahoma.
Thanks,

Have a good trip up here!

VWs are hibernating at this time of year.
I'm by far not in the VW mainstream but I believe most of the VW events are in the late spring/summer. And I'm not familiar with clubs and their meetings--I sorta feel like the hay days were in the 90s but popularity is ramping up again.

I will tell you tho that our winters around here are most likely more damp then what you might be used to in Oklahoma-a cold that stays with you and slushy feet.

Someone else may know of some sorta VW sites to visit?

Leonard Tue Dec 11, 2007 10:33 am

We have made this trip for the past 6 years to visit an aunt in Brampton and then on to Florida to see my parents. So far we have extreme weather only once in CDN but equip the bus accordingly. We hope to check out beetlemania while in Toronto.
Thanks,

Hi every 1 cross Canada.. Good to see so many vw lovers up here. Not too many here on the rock as so much salt and sand used on the roads not much left. I started my 72 super 3 yrs ago and had to particually rebuilt the car from the ground up. Most of the body was shot but as of today only a couple of things left and she'll be on the road. Nice to hear from all ye guys. I've kept a record of mine and have most pics posted on my own web page so if anyone would like they can see her there.[/url]http://www.supervwrestoration.piczo.com/?cr=1&rfm=y. Would love to share pics and experiences of fellow Canadian where the beetle is so rare up here. I know of only about a dozen down here. Take care and keep this thread going.

Good-day eh, New to site and just got back into the vw's two years ago after being out of it for 12 yrs. I live in Port Perry, Ontario about an hour and a half N.E. of Toronto. Brought a 62 Ragtop up from California, restored the car and two weeks (to the day) got rear ended on my way home from work, removed all bent tins two years ago and will have the car back on the road this spring. I have to add that this site has really helped me in locating parts and Tech. advise, because I have been out of it for so long and there are so few of us in Ontario. Would love to make the drive to any cruise nights, please let me know of dates and locations. Thanks, Chris.

Fatapple, good to see another Bug in Ontario. This is my 54 in Markham:
.
I often go to Haugens in the summer (assuming winter ever ends). Maybe I'll see you there.

Thanks Bruce, very nice ride you have, our paint looks to be close, pic's never really show how go they look. I am five minutes away from Haugens I was there with the car 2 yrs ago at the big show they have at the end of the year, it was the next day I got hit on my way home from work, wasn't even going to drive the bug but it look so good after the show and it was a beautiful sunny day I DROVE IT. Thanks for the links on the cruise nights, fore sure going to cruise out to a few of them, just have to clear out winter projects from the shop and bring the car in and get to work. Did you go to the Por' Volks Festival in Elizabetville 05?

Bruce MacDonald Tue Feb 19, 2008 5:02 pm

Fatapple,
That's a shame! So many people drive way too close. I mounted a 3rd brakelight under the licence light housing and spend much time watching my rearview mirror. Your colour really seems to suit your Bug and I'm sure it will look great when you get it refinished. I haven't done Elizabetville yet, but here is a shot of my previous Bug (a 59) at Customer Appreciation Night at Haugens maybe 4 years ago:

I started last summer making the rounds of some of the Cruise nights. I hope to get to most of them in the next couple of years. People are always amazed at the simplicity of the old Bugs and especially the semaphores. I've been into VW's off and on since I bought my first one to drive to U of T in 1968. (You can see all 5 of them in my gallery) Every time I go out to the garage in the middle of winter it puts a smile on my face.

fatapple Fri Feb 22, 2008 9:03 am

Bruce, those pic's are sweet, I keep playing with the parts I have purchased so far this winter, going to take a look at a spotwelder for the rear apron and bracket install. I am hoping that I can start in three weeks, just need a right rear fender and the big money part the rear bumper. Have everything else.

70 140 Mon Feb 25, 2008 10:41 am

Nice cars guys!

I am pulling some stuff apart right now, I should have a bunch of pieces for the April swap meet at Johns Bug Shop - I might even have some fenders for you FatApple - I just have to figure out what is what.
