View original topic: Shall I replace my Type2 diagonal arms with Type1 or Porsche

I have a Bus back-end on my racing rail and after breaking 3 bus rear diagonal arms I've come to the conclusion that it's time to sort the problem once and for all by changing the inherently weak Type2 components.

I'll cut off the present Type2 pivot mount on the torsion tube and weld on a Type1 in the corrent location. But then I have a choice..... do I go with Type1 diagonal arms and hubs or diagonal arms and hubs off a Porsche 944 (or 924....I cant remember which it is). There's 2 of these Porkers in the local breakers and the parts are going cheap.

My initial plan was to just go the Type1 route and box the diagonal arm up using a kit from McKenzies but now after seeing these Porkers it's got me thinking.

Anyone out here done this or got any thoughts? :)

I was going to ask about these parts too.

Apparently the 944 turbo series 2 arms are 70mm wider than type 1 and are made out of beautiful cast aluminium. Come with disk brakes too. They seem ideal. But are they any good off road? No idea.

Theres your answer, "cast aluminum" prolly not the smartest thing to use. Plus the disk brake thing is nice but then you have deal with the Porsche bolt pattern too.

Sounds like custom arms to me... use bug bearings.... they can fab just about anything you need (and can afford).
