The side windows look too big,but it does have a semafore slot. Just curious.

Looks like it is a real one. Pull out door handles, skinny bumper irons, early popes nose, 3 fold rag, looks cool!
I think it's just the shadow on the door frame that makes the windows look bigger.

The B-pillars on 1965-later cars are too thin to accept semaphores. If that car isn't an authentic pre 52 Beetle, it has to be atleast a Pre 64 to have semaphores fitted (factory or custom)

thanks for the info.I have seen so few I didn't know what to look for.

Just seen it in the classifieds bit - it's a UK car too. I think I've seen a picture of it in one of the magazines - either Volksworld or Ultra VW - from Stanford Hall. now I've seen the pics it does look even more like a genuine one.

The wheels look interesting, most likely a set of the ultra-rare "Keel" or "Kiel" wheels... like American cars had in the 1960's, but notice the wide-5 pattern...

The wheels are what most people in the UK call South African Sprintstars, even though they aren't Sprintstars at all!
They were a factory fitment on many SA beetles, up to around 1975 I believe. I think SA bugs also kept king and linkpin until then too.

As for manufacturer - I'm not sure. Some have suggested Lemmertz, some have said Rostyle. I've never owned any, but I know a man who has! I'll ask him when I see him next.

Jason, I just talked with Joe Vittone, the founder of EMPI, sent him the photo of that car, and he said those are most definitely NOT Sprint Stars, and were not marketed by EMPI.

Now Wut?

judging by the background and driveway id say europe, looks like this car, rattle cann'd. i met the guy at bad camberg.

here is another cool one i took of the camberg rats :)

Nope, that brown one is another one! The age related number plates issued to imported vehicles are non-transferable, as far as I'm aware, and these two have different plates! And the red one is a ragtop too.

Just been looking for some more info on the "Sprintstars" too - they're Rostyles, and were available in different sizes and offsets, it would seem.

The brown one is mine :D.... thats me sitting on it ;)

the wheels were indeed originally fitted to some south african bugs and (mine at least) were made by lemmertz.

:D

Hey jim

are you back in the states now...?

Yep doing OK... I got a 1776 in the bug straight after camberg and have done 1000's of miles with it, (the last trip was hessisch) but after seeing so many 25hp's there, I bought a crashbox (to replace the one that destroyed itself on the way back from camberg) and am about to start rebuilding the original 25hp. :)

They are not sprintstars from empi

they are Rostyle wheels also known as african sprints stars since they were made in south africa
