Well I finally paid a visit to my body/paint guy. Ends up he HAS been working on the Notch, in between other jobs. He's got the body/fenders in sanding primer with only one more blocking to go. The decklid is nearly done but the hood/doors need more work. I'll post more pix when I get home

the back fender all massaged out!

the roof has been straightened. Had numerous "oil can" dents in it.

We're in the same boat. My square has been at the body shop since December. Most of the body panels are painted, but there is still a lot of body work to do on the shell. I just hope it is ready for the October show in Puyallup. I was supposed to have it for the summer, but that isnt looking so hot. I hate waiting.

Looks good. Bodymen can be a pain at times. We have a guy in OKC who owns a shop called Affordable Customs. He does metal work only. No paint, no filler. Paint and filler are what ties up a shop because of the cleanliness factor. This guy can get a car turned around in 3 - 10 weeks depending on condition and schedules 5 bays at one time. Damned good work too.

Wolfman- Well "only" 4 years! Hell, that's reasonable  The part that really sucks is I've seen at least 4 other cars come and go from his shop in the last year. But at least he is a personal friend of my good buddy so I am confident the job will be done to the best of his abilities. He also works full time at a body shop so taking on projects like this is a side job. "One must learn patience, Grasshopper" 8-[

Yep, so everyone keeps telling me. Kinda like contractors...

Finally! After a year and a half Derek finally finished it. The Notch's body is done, wet sanded and buffed! \:D/ We're going up Sunday with the trailer to pick it up! I changed my mind and had him paint the entire car black...no pearl white roof. He said he should have the fenders, doors, hood & decklid done by the end of March. I'll post pix just as soon as I can...[/b]

Every paint and body guy I have known considered himself an "artist". Even if they are only shooting one color.

Everything has to be right (Jupiter aligned with Mars, Bad moon rising, redsky in the morning) or they just can't get it right.

Funny how they are always busy though.

That's why I have a guy paint for me. I can prep it (he can't) but I can't spray to save my life (he can). It works out pretty good this way, as I get enough work to keep me busy, and he gets a couple of spray jobs per year to keep in practice. :D

 Not defending my guy but he had a bunch of personal shit on his platter including the birth of his son and the need to save his marriage soon after. I probably could've been a prick (I've been known to be one from time to time  )and lit the fire under his ass. But I chose to be patient in the hopes that the job would be nothing short of the highest quality. He's done a lot of extra custom touches and details to the car that were not in the original agreement. I've seen other cars that he's painted and they were all awsome paint jobs.

LBM

I wasn't putting them down. Just seems to be the way it is.

The guy that painted my scooter has the following message on his answering machine "if I don't know you personnally I won't return your call, so don't bother leaving a message" The door to the shop is always locked, you have to bang until your knuckles hurt. Somtimes in vain

But he does awesome work, and he's always busy.

When he's not in jail.

Are you using a different fuel guage in this car? I'm only asking because the hole looks kinda small for the stock unit.

Tvättbjörn Thu Feb 09, 2006 8:03 pm

how much are you going to pay for a full body/ paint job? Just like to get some numbers.

You guys are too funny.

:D :D The body is DONE. Will try to get it on the pan next weekend. Derek did an awesome job. The car shines in the sun like a mirror. It's a little dusty in these pix, but you get the point. \:D/ \:D/

Damn that looks clean. I can't wait to see that thing assembled. You don't see many black notchbacks.
