Thanks, Arthur.
Yeah, I-5 is a mess. Went to my buddy's in Everett and bottomed out the spare tire bucket under the bumper on the less-than-smooth "transition" where they were paving. |

GRR, I hate it too! Thought I saw you heading up 204 a few days/weeks ago in my green '67 beetle. Not nearly as cool as your notch though! :) |

The latest addition.
Plate before restoration:

Plate after restoration: the painted letters/numbers are a little "thinner" than originally done, but it's straight, clean and clear coated.

And finally, mounted with new, proper year "tab":

I also have a restored original WA State 1965 trailer plate and a State of Hawai'i 1965 trailer plate (for my Allstate when it gets done) and a pair of NOS 1965 Hawai'i State plates, still in the original envelope, from "empicollector". 8) |

Thanks, Arthur.
I sent it to this guy. He lives in Marysville and did a good job, but he's having some heart problems of late so I don't know if he's taking anymore work for a while.

He does good work! Is the paint reflective? Do you have a front plate? There is a place online that reproduces vintage plates if not. I don't have a front plate either, but then my bus is not nearly as nice as your Notch!

Not reflective, but the OG wasn't back then either. I do have the other one that is not restored, but WA State law states you only need one rear mounted for "collector plates", which is what this is considered. I am considering purchasing another Euro German repo plate that has the same numbers/letters as this for up front, but I've not sold myself on the idea yet. (The front Euro plate is "technically" illegal. 8-[   ) If not I'll probably have the extra one restored (or try it myself) and mount it. I'd leave one off all together, but the T3s have a weird shape/look without one up front IMO. |

| mark-- i was going back and looking through your pics again, and i noticed you had a modern stereo mounted under the dash. How'd you do it? it was from too far away to tell. Im planning on finally finishing some interior things in the square over my xmas break... |

Took a stock radio holder, cut out the opening to fit a modern deck and re-chromed it with a whole bunch of other stuff. I was originally gonna hide it in the glovebox. But once I "altered" my dash and realized I'd have speakers showing in the kick panels, I figured what would it matter.

We encountered our first real setback today, and it couldn't happen at a worst time. I promised a friend of mine I'd chaffeur his daughter and new son-in-law on the day of their wedding. The plan was for me to attend the wedding, drive up to the church at the end and leave with the bride & groom. I'd drive them a few miles to the site of the reception. Only problem about 1 mile from the church I stop at a stop sign and then try to accelerate. Through first gear, shift to second and...no power. :x :o The engine is running fine, I can shift through al five gears and I have clutch pedal. I just can't tranfer any power to the rear wheels. Long & short...we ain't moving. I call my best friend who drops everything, drives to our location with his trailer and he gets us home. We made the reception, but no chauffering & no pics of the bride/groom with the car. ](*,)
:( They were very gracious when I explained and said they knew I would'nt "flake out" on them, so they knew something bad happened. They were just glad I hadn't totalled it. I suspect a spun rear hub (or two). Hubs were properly torqued but I've put down some serious torque during the break-in period. Fricken Tawain parts I suspect.
More to follow once I get it apart and diagnosed. |

That is one-of-a-kind innovation, localboy! A conbination the Type 3's classic look and a touch of modern technology!
Cool! |

Haven't gotten around to looking at the problem (I threw my lower back out on Friday and I can barely walk :x ). I am 99% sure it's a hub...or both. Lots of metal dust on the passenger side Fuch. They were CB roto-hubs but I'm looking to replace them with this: http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1172 but the hubs alone are $98/ea and the rotors another $129/ea.
I'm trying to decide. Pay alot now and hope they hold, or pay a little and chance the next rotors won't spin too. :-k ](*,) If I replace the roto-hubs only to have them spin in 500 miles I'm gonna be PISSED.
Anyone have experience with the race hubs from CB? |

If they were torqued properly... and they take a LOT of torque- 330 ft lbs or so- you're talking too much hotdogging on the gas pedal, crappy metal in the hub, worn axle splines, or a combination thereof.
How many HP are you running? |

Let's just say I used the pedal and did my share of romping it; remember I had to seat the rings.
That said I theorize it's both the way I drove it along with crappy quality metal in the hubs. We'll see. |
